ANGE YOGA: A Manifesto

'Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.

The Bhagavad Gita

I have been thinking a lot about what it means to call myself a teacher and how I appreciate this privilege to lead your practice.

I am consciously dedicated to co-creating an environment that allows you to feel safe and comfortable. To encourage discernment of body mind and spirit; to safely guide you. To provide a space and the space to acknowledge your emotional realm and remain present with it all as you journey into the self in validation of what may arise.

Yoga is a sacred intermission that enables healing as we develop awareness of how our emotions and thoughts manifest on the physical plane. It may be in the sacrum, the lower back where energetically we can become stuck. After all, mind and body is connected.

I want to influence mindfulness; attuning to your breath, your sensations and the orchestra of muscle, bone, tendon. A symphony of movement from your heart and with your mind. I passionately believe in the power of movement, our body and our breath to steady the mind.

Yoga isn’t a demanding and competitive performance with complicated flows and fancy asanas (postures). It was inspired to bring harmony and stillness to the mind. The same goes for me and the practice I lead.

I ask this of you and of me: 360 degree authenticity dedicated to retrospection, connection and acceptance. A journey in and throughout.

It is respectful to give thanks and acknowledge the sacred practice of yoga, an ancient Indian tradition. We give thanks for those who have come before us and made it possible to practice today and undertake this transformative journey.

Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu

May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
