Honouring rest - Pregnancy Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a powerful practice for Mums to be, to find balance during a time of accelerated change and connect with the body and recuperate
Yoga Nidra translates to yoga sleep.
A practice where you are encouraged to ‘drop off’ as you hover between wakefulness and dreaming.
It doesn’t require anything and asks nothing of you - not even your attention. Just find a comfortable seat lying down or seated, relax and fade away.
As a new mum, this practice has been instrumental for me. I have been dedicated to reserving 15 minutes and drift off to sleep with the practice.
It is a precious ritual I am motivated to share with everyone.
Why?.
Yoga Nidra has many benefits. Including the gradual settling of electrical activity in the brain. It…
Can cycle your brain waves down from the high-stress levels of Beta, to restful Alpha waves, through dreamy states of Thata waves and gradually, Delta waves or deep sleep
Takes you into the parasympathetic part of your nervous system
Helps to induce deeper, more restful night time sleep
Can reduce anxiety
Touches on subtle and vital nerve rich points in the body
What do you need?
Somewhere to put yourself
Capacity to listen to a recording
Bits and pieces to build your cocoon… (Blanket, bolster, pillows, eye mask - treat yourself)
Before you begin, take time to build your nest in order to luxuriate on the waves of sleep. A blanket is recommended as our body temperature drops during practice.
Enjoy! I'd love to hear from you if this practice helped. I would love to share more.
